SAVING LIVES

The Martin Jetpack is designed to be one of the world’s safest and most practical OPV (Optionally Piloted Vehicles). It can be flown manned, unmanned, and soon as part of a mule train, which finally gives Specialists a tactical air support asset that is able to provide front line rapid response solutions in mission critical environments.

The Martin Jetpack is a “game-changer”. With its small footprint, it can be rapidly deployed from a trailer or truck by the Specialist group conducting the mission. This “Organic Air Asset” solves the problem that many Specialist units have of time delays when calling in air support. By showing up at the scene by road with OPVs, Specialists can immediately control the airborne environment and start delivering real capability. Its strengths for Saving Lives are

  • confined space operations (close to or between buildings, near trees, or other areas that helicopters can’t access)
  • Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) with Hands-Free Position Hold
  • interoperability:
    • uses automotive fuel (multiple fuel options being developed)
    • fitment of mechanical or systems role equipment is possible (subject to payload and engineering requirements)
    • can be easily transported on trailers or trucks

The Specialist Martin Jetpack has been designed to deliver rapid deployment and extend mission capability for specialist operations, including Police, Fire, Homeland Security, Search & Rescue and Disaster Response. Roles include

  • rapid response and recovery
  • initial intervention
  • vertical resupply of vital equipment and personnel
  • intelligence, surveillance, reconnaisance
  • rapid deployment of specialist teams and equipment
  • others as per customer requirements

DESIGN FEATURES

The Martin Jetpack is designed for safety, reliability, interoperability, maintainability and simplicity.

There is a low overall component count, which aids reliability and overall safety and ensures the Jetpack is highly economical and cost effective when compared with traditional aircraft.

The Jetpack technology has a purpose-built gasoline engine driving twin-ducted fans to produce sufficient thrust to lift the aircraft and a pilot (or equivalent weight) to take-off and land vertically. It uses advanced composites to produce a lightweight structure with high safety factors.

The Jetpack torque-neutral patented fan technology eliminates the need for a tail rotor, an articulated rotor head and flapping blades. This means the Martin Jetpack is compact, safe for the user and anyone nearby, and is simple to maintain and operate.

SAFETY INFORMATION

SAFETY INFORMATION

Safety is a vital aspect of any aircraft and the Martin Jetpack has been designed with this in mind. The Jetpack is “fly by wire” so unlike other aircraft, including helicopters, it is relatively easy to operate, ensuring pilot qualifications should be easy to obtain. Its ballistic parachute system aims to safely recover the aircraft from just a few metres above the ground, adding to our goal of making the Martin Jetpack one of the safest light aircraft on the market.

The Martin Jetpack has a number of layers of safety features:

  • ballistic parachute with ultra-low-level opening at 18 feet/6 metres
  • impact-absorbing undercarriage
  • roll cage
  • enclosed rotors
  • Kevlar composite containment rings
  • high design factors of safety
  • formal ground and flight test campaigns to a standard appropriate for certification
  • hands-free stability

EXPERIENCE THE FUTURE TODAY

The Martin Jetpack has been designed as a work horse, offering the Industrial, Utilities and Commercial sectors a versatile and cost-effective alternative to helicopters for commercial operations in the following sectors:

  • energy and resources
  • infrastructure and engineering
  • utilities
  • maritime
  • agriculture
  • geospatial
  • agriculture
  • logistics
  • film and media

The Commercial Jetpack offers both manned, unmanned and mule train operational capabilities. The Jetpack’s ability to operate in confined spaces enables work to be carried out close to or between structures, near trees or in areas that other aircraft cannot access; offering a wide range of uses including

  • pipeline and powerline inspections
  • maritime operations, ship to ship/ship to shore with the ability to land  on small vessels
  • superstructure inspections, including communication towers, pylons, or under bridges
  • aerial and promotional work - manned or unmanned (UAV) scanning or filming

Private/Recreational

Aviation has always had those early pioneers and enthusiasts who take up new aircraft for the sheer joy and exhilaration of flying. These early adopters often help to drive a product down new paths, and their recreational insights and feedback provide value for future developments.

The Martin Jetpack for the private/recreational market will be for those already qualified pilots who are keen to embrace new aircraft and technologies, to push the boundaries of what they love to do while enjoying the knowledge that the Martin Jetpack’s unique safety systems have pilot protection as their driving force. The environment in which these pilots fly is likely to remain regulated, with the Jetpack being able to be flown in accordance with existing or provisional rules. Nevertheless, flying the Martin Jetpack will be unlike anything ever experienced by the recreational aviator.

We hope to have such aircraft available to private/recreational aviators around 2020.

FLY THE DREAM

Since the jetpack was first introduced to wider movie audiences in spectacular style in 1965, many have dreamed of owning their own jetpacks. Now the Martin Aircraft Company is realising the dream of those few who dare to “slip the surly bonds of earth” unconstrained by the conventional.

Whether you’re an adventurer, a futurist or a visionary, the Personal Jetpack will give you the freedom to explore and venture to places that others can only imagine. Its small dimensions will allow it to operate in confined as well as open spaces, making it the ideal vehicle to cross the harbour for lunch on a superyacht or bypass downtown traffic and head straight for your apartment.

The Personal Martin Jetpack will be the ultimate in personal air transport, making the ordinary, extraordinary.

Like any autonomous vehicle, the provision of personal aircraft to the market will be driven by the regulatory environment. We estimate this to be some time after 2030.
